Susan works throughout Southern California as a freelance musician, clinician, adjudicator, sectional coach, and conductor. Beyond her regular conducting responsibilities, she enjoys bringing musicians together for chamber music, collaborative performances, and special artistic projects that cultivate friendship, artistic growth, community engagement, and the simple joy of making music together.
Raven Chacon became the first Native American composer to receive the Pulitzer Prize in Music. In October 2022, Susan performed with musicians of the Orchestra Collective of Orange County and the Music Department of the Claremont United Church of Christ in the West Coast premiere of Voiceless Mass. The performance brought together professional and community musicians to present Chacon’s powerful work exploring themes of identity, culture, and Indigenous perspectives within contemporary music.
