Dr. Susan E. Barnes regularly appears as a guest conductor, clinician, and adjudicator for honor orchestras, music festivals, and educational events throughout Southern California. She is passionate about inspiring musical growth, building community through ensemble performance, and supporting students and educators in their pursuit of artistic excellence.

Under the musical direction of David Rentz, the Orchestra Collective of Orange County is a collaboratively run, semi-professional symphony orchestra dedicated to presenting imaginative, cutting-edge performances for diverse communities across Southern California.
California State University, San Bernardino Symphony Orchestra
In the spring of 2025, Dr. Barnes was invited by Dr. Lucy Lewis to join California State University, San Bernardino as a Visiting Conductor of the Symphony Orchestra. Working alongside Professor Lewis and the talented student musicians of CSUSB was both an honor and a pleasure. Throughout the semester, Dr. Barnes and the orchestra devoted countless hours to studying and refining the repertoire, collaborating with soloists, shaping original compositions, and bringing the music from the printed page to vibrant life. The students' dedication, diligence, and artistry culminated in a remarkable spring concert that showcased their collective growth and musical excellence.

Dr. Barnes was selected to conduct the San Bernardino County Middle School Honor Orchestra, a prestigious 60-member ensemble of seventh- and eighth-grade string musicians representing more than thirty school districts across the county.
